Travelling to Europe suddenly becomes more expensive amid Middle East tensions, prices double
The impact of rising tensions in the Middle East is clearly visible on European trips. Flight route changes have led to higher fares, making tour packages like those to Paris and Switzerland almost twice as expensive in just a few weeks.
If you're dreaming of a Paris vacation this year, your budget may be stretched significantly. In just a few weeks, the prices of European trips have skyrocketed.
Trips that were once easy to plan are now becoming unaffordable for many. This is due in large part to rising tensions in the Middle East, which is directly impacting air travel.
Rahul Chadha, manager at Sanva TravelTech (Travoint), said in a Moneycontrol report that a six-night trip to Paris and Switzerland used to cost around ₹250,000 to ₹300,000 for a couple.
However, the same package has now risen to ₹450,000 to ₹500,000, meaning the overall cost has nearly doubled. This change is particularly noticeable during this summer, when Indian travelers are increasingly planning to visit Europe.
Flight tickets ruined the entire budget
The biggest reason for this inflation is the rapid increase in airfares. A flight from Delhi to Paris used to cost around ₹55,000 to ₹65,000, but now the same ticket has reached ₹70,000 to ₹80,000.
Similarly, tickets to Zurich have also become significantly more expensive. In some cases, tickets to major European cities are going up to ₹1.5 lakh to ₹2 lakh per person. Consequently, flight costs alone are eating up a significant portion of the trip budget.
What is the role of the Middle East?
In fact, most low-cost flights from India to Europe pass through the Middle East. Cities like Dubai, Doha, and Abu Dhabi have long served as transit hubs. However, the current situation has affected some air routes in these areas. Airlines are having to change their routes due to security concerns.
Longer route, more cost
When flights change their routes, they have to travel longer distances. This increases flight time and fuel consumption. This directly impacts ticket prices. Passengers now have to pay more for the same distance, and sometimes the travel time also increases.
Will this inflation last for a long time?
Travel industry experts believe this situation is not permanent. As the situation normalizes, flight routes may return to normal and fares may also decline. However, for now, travelers will have to plan their trips with increased costs.
If you're planning a trip to Europe, prepare a larger budget. Additionally, flexible dates and advance booking can help reduce costs somewhat. Many people are also deciding to postpone their travel so that prices can normalize.
