AI is a tool to support the falling rupee, this is how students studying abroad are earning money

Amid a falling rupee and rising expenses, Indian students studying abroad are now adopting new avenues of earning through AI and digital platforms, enabling them to manage their studies as well as financial pressures.

Rupees is falling

Indian students studying abroad are now adopting new ways of earning to meet their expenses. This is largely due to rising costs and the falling value of the rupee, which has made financial support from home less available.

Consequently, students are increasingly shifting from traditional part-time jobs to digital and online work.

According to an ET report, while students previously worked in cafes, retail stores, or restaurants, they are now engaging in tutoring, designing, coding, social media management, content writing, and video editing.

Many students are also earning income by conducting research within the university or assisting other students.

The increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI) has further accelerated this shift, providing students with more opportunities to work from home and balance their studies.

Expenses rise due to falling rupee

However, different countries have regulations governing student work. In the US and UK, students can typically work up to 20 hours a week, while in Canada this limit is 24 hours, and in Australia, it's 48 hours every two weeks.

Despite these regulations, students are seeking alternatives that allow them to earn more while remaining within the established norms. The weakening of the rupee has made studying abroad more expensive.

The rupee's continued depreciation against the dollar has led to higher fees and living expenses. This is particularly impacting students who are studying in India using education loans.

According to experts, the average education loan taken for studying abroad has also increased in recent years, further increasing the financial pressure on families.

Earning money through these methods

As a result, students are turning to new methods of earning, such as affiliate marketing, social media monetization, user content creation, and online reselling.

Furthermore, they are applying for scholarships in advance, choosing universities that fit their budget, and pursuing courses that offer better job opportunities. Networking in advance has also become essential for campus jobs and assistantships.

AI and freelancing platforms have opened new avenues for students to earn income. They are now earning well through AI-related work, prompt engineering, and digital skills.

Furthermore, some students are also adopting unique methods, such as participating in clinical trials, caring for pets, living and working with foreign families, or buying and selling antiques online.

Some students even earn money by renting out their hostel rooms during vacations. Today's students are no longer limited to working on a fixed schedule,

but are striving to maximize their income by using their skills and digital platforms. This changing mindset is helping them cope with rising expenses and financial pressures.
